 I was stuck, lost my motivation and in a rut. Learning A.T is a long road. I had given up on taking classes because it seems that they were all the same (this step that step B.S.!) Teacher after teacher...For a while I have been looking for something to get  my head back in the game. I needed  something different and this is it.  Thank you Richard Council. I can't figure what took me so long to realize the importance of really understanding what the music is saying, (the parts that make it up.) Rhythm fixed rhythm pattern, single time, double time, half time melodic rhythm, Adagio, Variation, phrases, and so much more.  I'm only posting this for those who might feel the same way I did. These classes give me a new perspective of why I feel, what I feel in the music. Understanding explains a lot! In the past I learned a lot of stuff I had no need for, so it just sat there in my head. Now I am learning to listen, dance and feel the music, in a completely different way that allows me to implement what I already know with more confidence.  We all know Richard to be a great guy. But I have found him to be a fantastic teacher, who has surpassed my expectations  in every way. Thanks Richard! - Chris

Great having Richard Council back in town and allow me please to share my experiences!  For those of you who are new to our Cleveland Community, I share with you that Richard is a friendly awesome man who genuinely cares about his students, not just at a workshop, but during a milonga and  remembers you even after he leaves town.  He is a great teacher to establish a baseline with, and on future trips, you can build on aspects of your dance that you are trying to improve.  Feel like you want to add more variety to your dance?  Skilled in leading and following  to the downbeats but want to add quick happy playful steps to your walk?   For any leaders and followers struggling with timing and syncopation, Richard incorporates syncopation into many of his steps and basic training, and I encourage you to consider workshop or privates this weekend to receive the benefit of working through this with him! - Joyce

Exceptional.  Richard brings so much credibility as an dancer, both with his skills and as well as his connection to the intangible artistry of a graceful, powerful, and subtle lead.  With that as his anchor, he has a rare ability to translate what he teaches to students at all levels of competence - all with wonderful humility, humor and yet a clear, articulate focus.  His abililty to encourage and inspire while he teaches makes him truly an expectional instructor.  How many times did I use "exceptional"?    

He has a very keen ability to read skill level, and then communicate techniques in a very "do-able" language to his students.  He has clearly spent much time studying how to break down complex techniques into building blocks that are accessible, and then build his students competence one step at a time.    

I took a private with him.  I found him very knowledgeable about dance technique, not just A. Tango.  He was able to communicate to me from a base of knowledge that I dance from.  He respects the past training and gives his interpretation of the execution of a move as well.  I learned a lot from him and look forward to his return. I would give him a #10 as an instructor.    

I appreciate how he tries to get around to everyone for some individual attention during classes. He's very easy-going and wonderful to work with.    

Richard just doesn't teach a routine....he teaches theory.  He is very good, and a nice guy.   He is my favorite guest instructor.
